SIX Golds to Australia, two Golds to New Zealand, and a Gold each to Papua-New Guinea and Philippines. That’s how the Arafura Games rewards worked out in Darwin on Friday, May 18.

At Light-heavyweight Mat Corbett (NSW) outscored the inexperienced Sam Woods of Northern Territory on the whistle inside two rounds.

New Zealand Middleweight Deacon Henry outpointed South Australia’s Tim Parker over four rounds, 42-22.

Welterweight Ged O’Mahony (ACT) was one of the two dynamos of the Darwin week, outscoring Farkhan Mohdharon of Malaysia in the third round.

Rising South Australian, Dave Biddle, picked up the Light-welterweight prize, 41-20, in the four-round match with Cameron Hammond of the Aboriginal team.

Homeland rivals Will Tomlinson (Victoria) and Mark Pevinsky (ACT) fought out the Lightweight final, Pevinsky edging the fancied Viccie, 46-32.

Joel Brunker (NSW) bombarded the Indonesian, Ali Antoni in the first round of the Featherweight final, to bring the whistle.

In the Bantamweight decider, Queensland southpaw Bradley Hore cruised to a 32-20 points decision over Affandey Awang Kati of Malaysia.

Francis Oaike of Papua New Guinea was surprise winner of a Flyweight final that set the computers sizzling, 70 points to 68. The loser, Afri Lubis from Indonesia had eliminated NSW boxer, Jimmy Ceapa in a semi-final.

In the absence of Australia’s coming ace, Steve Sutherland, aged below the compulsory 17, Light-fly honours went to Bill Vicera (Phi) over Zenzai Mohamed (MAS), 53-32.
