Hatton V Mayweather

THE FIGHT OF YOUR LIFETIME

Ricky Hatton

THE most glittering welterweight fight in boxing history is coming. Ricky Hatton of England versus Floyd Mayweather of the United States. Golden Boy Promotions has set the WBC title for December 8, 2007. The site is yet to be named, perhaps Las Vegas, or – Switzerland.

The mighty rivals boast 81 fights, every one a win. Hatton 43 wins (31 KOs). Mayweather 38 wins (24 KOs). Hatton overcame the great Kostya. Mayweather edged the great Oscar.

Mayweather last start (March) gained a split decision over De La Hoya for the WBC light-middleweight title. Hatton last start (June) knocked out Juan Luis Castillo in four rounds . . two years since his 11-round triumph over Kostya Tszyu in Manchester.

Golden Boy, aiming to out-do Don King for spectacle, will take Hatton and Mayweather on tour throughout Europe and the United States in the coming months. They aim to amass all-time pay-per-view sales.

Tickets will go on sale next month on both sides of the Atlantic. Given the long build-up, the aerial passage from Britain (or the other way round) of thousands of fans is expected.
