At the Oceania Boxing

Five Golds in Oceania

 

 

The Australian boxers collected five Gold medals and three Silvers in the finals of the Oceania Championships in Apia, Samoa on Saturday night.

FINALS. 51kg - Jimmy Ceapa Gold, defeated PNG rsc rd 4, his second short-cut win.
54kg - Luke Boyd Gold, defeated Samoa rsc o/s rd 2
57kg - Paul Fleming Silver, lost to Samoa 24-18
60kg - Will Tomlinson Gold, defeated Samoa 32-17
64kg - Todd Kidd Silver, lost to Samoa after sustaining a blood injury in rd 3
75kg - Jarrod Fletcher Gold, defeated New Zealand rsc o/s rd 3. Fletch won on the whistle over Jameson Belt holder, Nate McEwen. In the semi-final Fletch tipped out #2 Kiwi, Kahu Bentson.
91kg - Brad Pitt Gold, defeated Fiji rsc rd 1.
91+kg - Daniel Beahan Silver, lost to New Zealand 32-28. Ezakai Maama was seven points down entering the fourth round but stormed to 32-15 over Beahan

Our welterweight, Gerard O’Mahony lost 9-11 to Joe Blackbourn, the defending Oceania champ, on day 2. Blackbourn beat Hugo Fata of Samoa 27-3 in the 69kg final.

Steve Sutherland oiur 48kg rep was debarred from contesting the title – Steve’s under 17 - but he won two bouts against locals.
