TO
BUILD CAREER ON SOLID FOUNDATIONS
Brisbane entrepreneur, Les Luxford
knows how difficult it is to make a quid between
the ropes. Luxford boxed 20 pro fights as
a Sydney light-welterweight in the 1980s,
but his fight purses ended up mere pennies
Les's company, 'Opportunity
Realty' is the new major sponsor of 'The Narooma
Booma', Leroy Brown, as he steps out on the
pro road.
Navigating Brown’s financial
future, Luxford promises Bad Boy won’t
be making the mistakes he himself (and most
boxers) made, retiring penniless from the
game. Brown will be well on the way to creating
his own financial wealth from the game, long
before he fights for his first major Pro title.
Brown's Manager Ziggy, Mark
Zielinski, is happy to have Opportunity Realty
onboard. “Les and his contacts have
made it possible for Leroy to train full time,
it's hard to find sponsors who understand
and know the game like Les.”
Brown will make his Pro debut
this Friday night, February 23, on Jeff Fenech’s
Fight Night, live on Foxsports from Rooty
Hill RSL Club & Resort. On the Booma’s
back will be printed 3.99% Home Loans, followed
by Opportunity Realty's contact number 1300
762 315.
Brown enters the 'pay for punch'
ranks following a high profile amateur career,
winning 31 of his 36 fights. He captained
the Australian team at the under-19 world
championships in Morocco 2006. And to complete
his amateur career on SKY Channel, Leroy boxed
the main event and also delivered TV commercials
promoting tourism to his home town of Narooma.
‘Bad Bad’ Leroy
Brown has been one of our loudest promoted
boxers. Quoth editor of ‘Amateur Boxer’
magazine, Joe Bridges, "the highest publicised
amateur boxer for 40 odd years, since Madigan."
‘Bad Boy’s’
management made no secret that Brown was being
groomed for the pros, and they held the amateurs
to be purely an apprenticeship.
"It's all about to start,”
said manager Ziggy, “ this is what we
have been waiting for!"
Leroy is scheduled for six rounds
with a Filipino middleweight, Roland Malahoa,
not to be found in BoxRec under that name.
Ziggy’s other well-known
amateur, Dennis Arthur was due to debut pro
on Friday against Zac Awad, but a death in
Zac’s family postponed it.
In the main event, Viktor Oganov
is out to try and maintain his 100 per cent
record of knockouts against the sturdy South
African, Andre Thysse
