WBO slides Kali out
... But nine Aussies rate

NINE Australian boxers are lodged in the monthly ratings of the World Boxing Organisation released 18 November.

Brewster champ Meehan nowhere

The omission of Kali Meehan, who ran the WBO's own heavyweight champion close, was a surprise. Seems they dropped him down the chute hours after he got biffed by Rahman. Rahman towers #2, to Toney and Brewster.
Was no rung left for Checkmate Kali in the entire 15?

Sanctioning bodies generally behave like gentlemen's clubs - if you belong to another, conspicuously, you can't come in ours.

This explains the omision of Paul Briggs from light-heavyweight, and of Danny Green from super-middleweight . . though Anthony Mundine was the immediate past-presider of the WBA - and here the WBO are rating him #4.

And in WBO world #15 place is Peter Mitrevski, whom the ANBF lists 11th Australian. Mitrevski's recent Asia Pacific title win over another undercard boxer, Kalie Jacobus of Vanuatu, in only Peter's second fight in two years, shows the value of winning a WBO regional.

Danny Dawson .. in
Sam, Shannan .. out

Is Ben Rabah
man for Cotto?

Sam Soliman and Shannan Taylor meet the clubmen's fate of omission. Danny Dawson is #6 light-middleweight to an approachable champion, Daniel Santos, Puerto Rico. Don't approach the PR southpaw too close. He won two title fights by head clashes.

Harry's hotshot, Ben Rabah stands #10 under Miguel Cotto's light-welterweight leadership.
An uninviting ladder perches Hatton, Witter, Abdulaev and Branco between the champ and the Perth challenger.

Mick Katsidis is the #10 lightweight in a hot division topped by Corrales, Freitas, Zegan and Grigorian.

WBO regional
enters top 10

How'd that IBF
gun get in here?

Robbie Peden is WBO #9 junior-lightie, having perhaps slipped past the eye of the doorman who usually wouldn't let the IBF top-rater in.

The WBO featherweights give #2 to Nedal Hussein (probably more comfortable there than in 122-pounders), and #5 to Gairy St Clair, an Aussie gun labelled Guyana. Gairy is closing in on the WBO titlist, Scott Harrison.

To round off, our Hussy Hussein is WBO flyweight #5 to champ Omar Narvaez. Vic D didn't get a member's pass.

Generally good hustling for the diggers, by WBO regional rep, Danny Leigh in Brisbane.
