TOMMY BROWNE is going
after bigger belts that this 'Oceanic' strap.
His eyes are on the boxing bigtime, not
babes. |
Tommy
Browne, 21 year old world comer from Campbelltown,
is aiming to make a steep leap from WBC Youth
Champion to world open champion.
In Jin Chi of Korea has accepted
Browne as challenger to his WBC featherweight
belt, in a voluntary defence of the title in
Seoul, Korea at the end of January.
Our North American contact
announced the surprise match last night, and
Steve Deller of UPRcut Promotions in Sydney
confirmed it was on, with purse strings still
to be tied.

Tommy Browne successfully
defended his youth title (under 24) a month
ago at Homebush, against another hot youngster,
Rudy Lopez from Mexico.
Tommy is rated #30 in the
WBC ladder . . . a long way from the top rung
where In Jin Chi stands. The Korean has been
fighting the best for three years.
He ran Erik Morales close
in a 12-round tussle for the WBC featherweight
title in July 2001. In Jin succeeded to the
title when Erik went up a division.
A swift mover with sharp punch,
Tommy Browne took the Australian featherweight
title against Danny Hoskins two years ago to
this very day.
He won most of his hundred
amateur bouts, has the highest craft and a 17-2-1
stat in the pro ranks. Only the experience of
In Jin (29-2-1) might count as advantage.

Should
Browne bring the WBC big belt home, there are
a couple of homers would be looking for all-Aussie
world match-ups in 2005. Gairy St Clair and
Nedal Hussein.
"We'd be happy to fight
both those men, provided the negotiators were
reasonable," Steve Deller said.
"Mind you, Nedal
couldn't expect to jump in. He's supposed to
be in another division"
