Thai trouble for brothers
By Dave Wellings

Toowoomba's boxing brothers, Matt and Mick Shaw take a step up in class tomorrow [Saturday night, 25 September]. Their Thai opponents are serious matchings.

Matt Shaw, Queensland welterweight champion, meets the current welterweight champion of Thailand, Jennarong Sithsunand.

Mick Shaw recently took the State lightweight title from Danny Wilson but he will face much stiffer opposition from Kongthwait Sorkitti, a former world champion, alphabet variety.
The Thai won the WBF featherweight belt by KO1 in 1999.
He lost it in a hard 12-rounder to Nedal Hussein, who apparently let the title lapse, instead pursued a British Commonwealth title.

In April Sorkitti was competitive at lightweight against Rocky Katsidis.
Sorkitti retired in his corner after nine rounds, complaining about the slippery canvas; it will be Mick Shaw who needs to be slippery on Saturday night.

The show promoted at the Oakey Civic Centre by Uppercut Promotions will feature Gilbert Hooper's Oakey-based boxers including Dave Smith, Corey Weston and Sean Ryan.
